Celebrating Queer Icons for Women+ History Month 2025
This Women+ History Month, I am revisiting biographies of women who were included in the 1996 Scholastic Encyclopedia of Women in the United States, one of the most frequently read books on my childhood bookshelf. All of these individuals are held up as iconic women in U.S. history, though I never knew were part of the LGBTQIA+ community until my adulthood.

Valued & Visible: Case Studies for Operationalizing LGBTQIA+ Inclusion at Museums
I spent 2024 working on three case studies about three unique museums – Washington State History Museum, The Buffalo History Museum, and Historic New England – who have made strides for interpreting and collecting LGBTQIA+ history, uncovering the details of how the resulting initiatives came to be.
Museum Monday: Orlando Art Museum
From December 2023 – June 2024, OMA partnered with and LGBTQIA+ youth serving organization, Zebra Youth, for “Art with Purpose.” During each art workshop, youth were able to explore a gallery and participate in art journaling activities led by a queer teaching artists.
Celebrating Black Queer Icons for Black History Month 2025
These Black LGBTQIA+ icons were important trailblazers in their time, breaking the barriers of race, gender, and sexuality. Their legacies continue to inspire us all to live authentic lives and commit ourselves to creating a world where everyone can thrive.
